Martello Tower number 55
Built in 1804 during the height of the Napoleonic Wars, 73 were erected between Folkestone and Seaford. This one has lead an interesting life, having at some point been a semaphore station and a base to conduct electronic wireless experiments. It was sold in 2004 to be converted into a home.
