Old steadings at Port nan Long
Old steadings at Port nan Long
Before the new road and causeway to Berneray was constructed, Port nan Long was the end of the road, North Uist's most northerly community. Also known as Newton Ferry, kelp was exported from here until the middle of the 19th century. Beyond the old steadings are the remains of a simple stone jetty.
