TQ2151 : Gatekeeper's Cottage, Rectory Lane

taken 14 years ago, near to Buckland, Surrey, England

Gatekeeper's Cottage, Rectory Lane
Gatekeeper's Cottage, Rectory Lane
The only remaining example of six gatekeeper's cottages on the Redhill to Guildford railway, it was built in 1848 to an Italianate design, serving the level crossing where Rectory Lane crossed the railway (see TQ2151 : Level Crossing, Rectory Lane). It continued to serve as a crossing keeper's cottage until automation in 1980, despite serving only a farm and few cottages on a dead end lane.
