Church of the Assumption, Beckley: lych gate
Church of the Assumption, Beckley: lych gate
This church, like many another English village church, has Norman origins along with elements of building from several later periods. Its present dedication is to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (a medieval Catholic dedication) but it stands on the site of an earlier wooden church dedicated to an obscure Saxon saint, Tinniver (or Donnandverdh). It is listed grade 1 (listed building no. 246547).

The parish of Beckley is now part of a much larger group of twelve rural churches (the Benefice of Wheatley, LinkExternal link ).
