Luttrell's Tower, Calshot
Luttrell's Tower, Calshot
This tower was built in the 1780s for a Mr Temple Simon Luttrell by Thomas Sandby. It has three storeys high with an extensive cellar, from which there is a tunnel that leads directly to the beach, exiting in the cliff face below. This was supposedly used for "smuggling". The tower is now owned by the Landmark Trust who own many follies and rent them out as holiday accommodation. The trees on the cliff have recently been drastically pruned back, and some felled.
