In the far distance, centre, are the towers of Chapelcross power station, and beyond them the Solway Firth. The cooling towers, which were a useful locational landmark from the M74, no longer exist, though the remaining buildings can still be seen. The towers were demolished on 20th May 2007 after the power station ceased to be operational in 2004. Decommissioning is currently in progress. Final site clearance is expected to be completed by 2128. See LinkExternal link
