Virgin / Cellnet Communications Carriage
Several years before the widespread introduction of "wi-fi" Internet access on long-distance trains, Virgin (the West Coast railway operator) teamed up with mobile phone company Cellnet to offer First Class passengers a "communications carriage" with access to e-mail, fax, telephone and mobile phone recharging facilities. It was launched in September 1998 on peak trains from Manchester to London and return, seen here at Euston about two weeks after the launch. Link
