Berry Head Lighthouse ... an early morning sunlit view
Berry Head Lighthouse ... an early morning sunlit view
This lighthouse is reputed to be the shortest lighthouse (5 metres high) around our coast but set at a height of 58 metres above Mean High Water giving its 60 watt output a capability to be seen over 14 miles out to sea.

To the left can be seen the observation and lookout for the old Coastguard service. Now, that facility is no longer manned and operated from this lookout although the various weather monitoring instruments are still in operation feeding back information to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency office on the quay at Brixham harbour.

This headland is of limestone and has resisted the erosion by the sea as has the limestone headland in the distance know as Hope's Nose. The softer rock between these two hard rock headlands has been eroded away to give the large sandy bay of Torbay some 4 miles across.
