The chimney is for Firth House Mill, and is detached, presumably so that it could be sited on higher ground to produce a stronger current of air and consequently a higher temperature. The top end of the chimney, above the trees, can be seen on other photos. Why Steele Lane now has an 'e' on the end is a mystery. It was 'Steel' on the 6" map of c.1940 and the farm is still Steel Lane Farm.
