Geograph - photograph every grid square

ST6967 : The Jolly Sailor, Saltford Lock on the River Avon.

This would seem an appropriate place to repeat the comment made in ST6866

"To avoid confusion it should be pointed out that the lock on the River Avon at Saltford is known as Kelston Lock.
Saltford Lock is just over 1km downstream from Saltford and is not very far from Kelston."


An OS one inch map from 1817-1830 provides an answer.
The area immediately north of Saltford Lock is named "Saltford Mead".
The village we now call Saltford only existed as a small un-named hamlet and when they built the lock there it would have been natural to call it Kelston Lock.

Nothing to do with the cider (perhaps).
