Enterprise barge beside Waterside House Museum, Oxford Island
The Enterprise barge is a former Lagan Canal barge which was built around 1900 in Portadown Foundry. Craigavon Museum Services acquired the barge, which had been converted into a sand barge, in 2007 and transported it from a sand quay on the eastern shore of Lough Neagh to Waterside House at Oxford Island. The museum has been involved in a project to restore the barge, 18.6m x 4.25m, as an Outdoor exhibit illustrating the history and heritage of the inland waterways in the surrounding area. Originally the barge would have been horse drawn. It is believed to be one of the last 1930's sand barges on Lough Neagh, so it is a unique and very impressive vessel. The restoration project has been funded by DCAL, the Heritage Council, NITB Tourism Development Scheme and Craigavon Borough Council. See J0561 : Local History Library
