Just beyond the gate covered in rough grass is the Agger of the Roman Road called Ackling Dyke. In the field beyond can be seen the bridleway marked out by the farmer. This field contains arable crops and also several Tumuli or ancient burial mounds. This area is rich in ancient earthworks. This gate is situated at the nw corner of Salisbury Plantation. The square is approx. 10% woodland. The rest is fertile cultivated farmland.
