I believe this to be a 3,435 cc Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 346. 7,697 were built between 1952 and 1958. Armstrong Siddeley Motors Ltd. was formed in 1919. Their cars were instantly recognised for having a Sphinx on the radiator cap. The Sphinx was first introduced on the Siddeley-Deasy Car Co. in 1912. It was a Greek type with upright design in the sitting position. It had an Egyptian head-dress and was a male figure with a lion's body. This type was used until 1914 and by Armstrong Siddeley between 1919 and 1931. The design changed throughout the 48 years - six in all. Other designs of Sphinx were available from the personalised mascot producers.
