Shearwater or Shear Water?
OS Explorer Map 143 calls it "Shear Water" when referring to the lake or "Shearwater" when referring to areas near the lake i.e. "Shearwater Screen" south west of the lake and "Shearwater Hanging" to the north.
http://www.warminster-web.co.uk/shearwater_lake.htm gives some interesting information:
"The official name for the lake is 'Shear Water Lake' or even 'Lake Shear Water', depending on whether you are reading the owner's, Longleat's, website, or their sign at the entrance, or maps, however the lake is more commonly known as 'Shearwater Lake', similarly the sailing club there is called Shearwater Sailing Club."
