ST5944 : Wool mill chimney: Croscombe

taken 12 years ago, near to Croscombe, Somerset, Great Britain

Wool mill chimney: Croscombe
Wool mill chimney: Croscombe
The river Sheppey, which runs through Croscombe, became insufficient to power the wool mills in the village (apparently the water table dropped substantially) and hence a furnace was constructed to provide the energy needed. Neither the furnace or the mills are now operational, although the buildings remain.
