SU3407 : Fulliford Passage, New Forest

taken 12 years ago, 3 km from Ashurst, Hampshire, Great Britain

Fulliford Passage, New Forest
Fulliford Passage, New Forest
The bridge in the foreground crosses the Beaulieu River i.e. provides the "passage" in the place name. Just beyond that is a railway arch that allows walkers and wandering beasts to get to the heathland to the west of the tracks. The river is a few metres wide here and steep-banked, so it is unlikely that this was the original fording place.
