SX8671 : Newton Abbot Railway Station

taken 19 years ago, near to Newton Abbot, Devon, England

Newton Abbot Railway Station
Newton Abbot Railway Station
This building was constructed in the 1920s as a regional headquarters for the Great Western Railway. Newton Abbot was once a very busy railway town with its own locomotive and wagon works. In latter years, the cutbacks of the 1960s have seen the station continually rationalised and this building is rather out of place compared to what is actually remaining of the railway industry or station traffic now seen. Many pictures depicting this station in its heyday can be found on the internet or in books.
