Fomes fomentarius
The Tinder Fungus or, as we call it, the Hoof Fungus likes to grow on old Birch trees up here. The Hunter Gatherer used to dry it out and then carry his fire from one camp to another in it, as it would smoulder all day and then he could blow on it to get his next fire going. It smells a bit like incense when smouldering.
