Round-leaved sundew on heathland, New Forest
This close-up shows the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) growing on the side-wall of a wheel-rut on the heathland between Longdown Inclosure and the railway embankment. The plant is insectivorious, attracting its prey with sticky droplets on its leaves. This method of acquiring nutrients helps it surivive on the nitrogen-poor heath.
