Disused pit alongside the railway near Fulliford Bog, New Forest
Looking east from the western side of the railway, on the ramp leading up to the bridge. On the far side of the railway is a disused pit with Scots pine growing on its side. In the absence of solid information I would speculate that the pit had something to do with the railway's construction. To the south of here (right of the photo) the tracks cross the boggy heath around the Beaulieu River, and the material to build the embankment had to come from somewhere local - and this knoll fits the bill.
