NC9219 : Strath of Kildonan

5 km from Craggie, Highland, Great Britain

Strath of Kildonan
Strath of Kildonan
Home to a gold rush, and a lot of sheep, this is a big strath heading inland from Helmsdale. Picture taken of Duible Farm with a train across the river.
The railway heads inland here, partly because the big landowners and investors wanted easy access to sporting estates, but mainly because of the cost of getting a railway up the increasingly hilly coast around the Ord of Caithness.
