Cairn celebrating the creation of "Calum's Road", Raasay
MALCOLM MACLEOD, South Arnish, 1911-1988, by his own unaided efforts, created this single track road (nearly 2 miles in length) over a period of ten years, out of a footpath, to connect the community of Arnish to the rest of Raasay, to the south. The local council would not support the project but 'Calum' MacLeod stubbornly persisted on his own, receiving minimal help from the army to blast away some rocky sections.
