Marker Beacon on Formby Bank
I got to the coast at about 4pm and wanted to head straight for the beacon but the red flags were flying at the military base and I was told that firing was about to start. So I headed up the coast and by the time I got back the flags were down so I headed out. The tide was well out but I still got my feet wet to get here. It's quite an exposed spot but I'm glad I came out to see the buoy close up. It must be between 30 and 40 ft high and there's a standing platform about half way up accessible by steps but you'd have to bring a ladder out here to get to the first rung...
It was worth coming out here once but I don't think I'd risk it again and I certainly wouldn't advise others to follow. YOU COME OUT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
