Standing Stone surrounded by trees
Standing Stone surrounded by trees
The stone is marked on the OS map, but not on the schematic tourist maps of routes around Great Cumbrae, and there is no sign pointing to it.
According to the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, it is supposed to be a memorial to some of the Norwegians who fell at the Battle of Largs in 1263. The stone stands about 6ft high and 14 inches broad and initials have been carved on one face.
