Eilean Donan - centuries old base of the MacRae clan
Eilean Donan - centuries old base of the MacRae clan
Restored in the 1920s by the MacRaes (close to the original design) - having been destroyed in a military siege and ruinous for 200 years. Now held in trust by the family who visit there regularly. Open to the public through the year and become one of the most visited castles in Scotland with a large visitor centre nearby. The Kintail region as a whole has been the heartland of the MacRae's for many centuries where they were loyal and fearless military supporters of the Mackenzies and, thereby, became Constables of Eilean Donan.
