St Peter's Church, Elford
The tower is dated 1598 and the rest of the church was rebuilt in the 19C - the north side in 1848-9 and the south side (aisle and chapel) in 1869-70. (Pevsner) The church is known for its large collection of shields. It also has a monument for the death of a child at play, the grandson of Sir John Stanley. He died when a tennis ball struck his head in 1460. (The Shell Guide to England, 1970)
