St John the Baptist, Cayton - Mass clock
St John the Baptist, Cayton - Mass clock
A scratch dial or mass clock set in the base of the wall of the church of John the Baptist. These simple sundials once indicated the time of the next service, but would normally be set much higher on the church wall, so this one may have been re-used during rebuilding work. I think it is at the west end of the church but I'm not certain.
