Hatchments in Horkstow Church
Hatchments in Horkstow Church
These are mentioned in Pevsner "HATCHMENTS. Three under the tower: Thomas Shirley died 1814; Anne Tufnell, John Tufnell, late c19." I assume that the one on the right bearing the motto SEMPER PARATUS (Always Ready)is that of Thomas Shirley. It was in his garden at Horkstow that the celebrated Roman Mosaic pavement, now in Hull Museum, was discovered.
