NS4279 : Remains of a longhouse
3 km from Bonhill, West Dunbartonshire, Great Britain

Remains of a longhouse
The structure measures about 30 metres by 5, with its long axis oriented WNW-ESE. The short wall at the eastern end can be seen in the left-hand side of the image, extending between two prominent boulders that mark the corners of the ruin (see NS4279 : Remains of a longhouse). The two long walls can be seen extending from those corners. The remains of cross-walls were evident, dividing the structure into several rooms; see NS4279 : Remains of a longhouse.
In the background, the woods are on Pappert Hill. Between those woods and the area of moorland on which the ruin is located, the land dips out of sight along the deep glen of the Murroch Burn.
In the right-hand side of the photograph, about half-way up the image, a horizontal line, tinged purple by heather, is a ridge that forms part of the boundary of the enclosure that is mentioned in the WoSAS report (see the end-note for the link).
On the left, part of the River Clyde can be seen in the distance. Above the left-hand edge of the woods, and placed almost centrally in this photograph, Carman Hill (NS3779) and the muirs that lie to its north can be seen.
