Badge of Solihull School
Badge of Solihull School
The badge displayed on both posts of the Warwick Road gates and on the school's uniforms is a quartering of the arms of Odingsells, Dabridgecourt, Waring and Greswold, introduced by the Revd Dr Robert Wilson, then headmaster, when the school moved to its present site in 1882. Strictly it is not a coat of arms, as no arms have been granted to the school. Sir William de Odingsells founded the chantry of St Alphege in the eponymous parish church, while the other three families were represented among the original Feoffees, the charity commissioners responsible for the governance of the School.

Odingsells: Argent, a fesse Gules, in chief two mullets of the last;
Waring: Azure, a chevron between three lions passant gardant Or (unfortunately the gold here has been eroded, but can be seen in its full glory in the SP1579 : Heraldic display on the school chapel);
Dabridgecourt: Ermine, two bars humetty Gules, each charged with three escallops Argent;
Greswold: Argent, a fesse Gules between two greyhounds courant Sable (or proper; one of these Greswold greyhounds also appears in the arms of the Metropolitan Borough);

The Latin motto is a traditionally construed as an ablative "By perseverance".
