Weirpool at the mouth of Scalby Beck (Sea Cut)
Weirpool at the mouth of Scalby Beck (Sea Cut)
An artificial canal constructed to relieve flooding in the Lower Derwent Valley. Built by the Victorians. The canal has little water in it for most of the time. It is used to take excess floodwater. In its lower course the sea cut uses the existing valley and course of Scalby Beck.
