Swarth Howe Cross
It is a Boundary Stone which stands where the old Whitby Road crosses the boundary of Whitby Strand. Carved on the shaft of Swarth Howe are dates of boundary ridings the first 1752 the last 1853. On the north face EGTON ROAD and on the east A ( for Aislaby ). The base is the site of an earlier cross said to have been a decorated Saxon shaft.
