Moorland drainage - evidence of a change of policy
Moorland drainage - evidence of a change of policy
Decades ago grants were available to farmers & landowners to drain their moorland, so presumably to make it more productive. Now policy has changed and the drainage ditches which were cut deeply into the moorland peat by massive ploughs, often in herring-bone patterns, are being blocked with peat dams so as to re-water the land!
