H.M.S. Pickle at Conwy (1)
A sail training ship moored at Conwy. This schooner is a replica of the same named vessel which was at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
I am grateful to Graham Horn for the following facts:- HMS Pickle was commanded by Lieutenant John Richards Lapenotiere. After the victory at Trafalgar, the 2nd in command Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood ordered Lapenotiere on Pickle to take messages back to England to the Admiralty to tell them the news. Pickle moored at Falmouth on 4th November 1805 and Lapenotiere hired, at great expense, a post-chaise to take him non stop to London in 37 hours with 19 changes of horses to bring the news.
