Cannon at Retford
Cannon at Retford
Russian 1,000 pound cannon captured at Sebastopol in 1855 and brought to the town in 1858. After a year of wrangling about where it should be placed, a grand ceremony and celebrations saw it named 'The Earl of Aberdeen' after the then Prime Minister and it has remained here ever since.
