The high altar of Lesnes Abbey in the snow
Lesnes Abbey was founded by Richard de Luci, Chief Justiciar of England, in 1178. It never became a large community, and was closed by Cardinal Wolsey in 1525. This silent scene looking towards the high altar, with Lesnes Abbey Woods behind, was taken on Christmas Eve.
