South Horn
South Horn
The conical white tower is the base for the South Horn, one of the foghorns which warned shipping of the dangers of approaching the island. They are no longer in use, foghorns having been superseded by modern technology. (I am tempted to wonder why it is that lighthouses have not been similarly superseded?)
