NS4178 : Ridge leading into Auchenreoch Glen

Ridge leading into Auchenreoch Glen
Ridge leading into Auchenreoch Glen
A fairly narrow ridge (compare NS4178 : The glen of the Murroch Burn) is shown here leading away from the photographer's position and then swerving to the left. The ridge provided a convenient means for me to access the lower reaches of Auchenreoch Glen (I would, however, caution others against doing so, since it would be easy to fall off, especially in certain weather conditions).

This ridge may well have been used in a similar manner by those who operated a lime-kiln that was located deep in the glen; that kiln was probably in use during the eighteenth or early nineteenth century: NS4178 : Lime-kiln ruin in lower Auchenreoch Glen.

The group of hills that is located centrally on the skyline is made up of Carman Hill (just left of centre, and located in NS3779) and the muirs that adjoin it on the north. The farm that is visible directly in front of Carman Hill is Highdykes.
