Gower family crest and motto
Gower family crest and motto
On the Castell Malgwyn gatehouse, built in 1845 after the place was bought by the Gowers of Glandovan. The motto Frangas Non Flectes means Break Not Bend. The three wolves heads suggest that the Gower family had ancestral connections to the 12th century warrior Rhirid ap Gwrgenau or Rhirid Flaidd (Rhirid the Wolf) from whom several other distinguished Welsh families claim descent.
