I remember the shops in Coronation Avenue because that is where I was bought up from 1964 to 1998. In Coronation Avenue there use to be the Post Office which is now a fish and chippie I think, next door was a grocer shop run by a brother and sister for many years after they retired they sold the shop it remained a grocer for some years but now I think it is charity shop, next to that was Lensons barber shop, the barber was at the back of the shop the front selling cigarettes and odds and ends, not sure what is there now, next to that was a greengrocer for many years. Interesting Len Parsons was the first to open his Barber shop after the war, ( the shop were build before the war and used as stores for the American troops stationed nearby) The Greengrocer was the second shop to open, it remained a greengrocer for many years not sure what is there now. Next to that was a hairdresser. Across the road was Raisins the grocer who were there during the war, my mum and dad remember it. The building was demolished after the raisin family retired and two shops were built in it's place, not sure what is there. Just down the road from raisins shop was the big 1930's Westfield Hotel, many a local for lots of local men for many years. Sadly demolished. Flats now occupy the site. On Stiby Road stands the Yeovil and District CO-OP grocery store, when first opened in the 1930's it was counter service with a long wooden counter. Now a supermaket, I do remember the CO-OP Butchers shop next door, with the sawdust on the floor. Hope this bring backs memories for a lot of local people.
