The drive from Harvard Farm - Closworth
The drive from Harvard Farm - Closworth
The drive from Harvard Farm is lined with Lime trees until it reaches the gate and the continuation of the lane to the Closworth road.
Harvard Farm once belonged to Thomas Hollis the philanthropist in the 18C who lived near Corscombe at Urles Farm and who bought the manors of Halstock and Netherstock. He was a protestant dissenter and wanted to do good in the world. His family had given gifts to Harvard University in America since 1690 and this he continued to do until one day he fell dead in the fields of his home and he was buried where he fell - no one today knows the exact spot.
