Disused Mine-working at Surface
Disused Mine-working at Surface
Veins of metal ore were often discovered at the ground surface and worked from there; these remains probably show such activity; there are huge quantities of waste rock left behind. An old mine road is in view to the right of the photo; this is now the route of the Pennine Way on the NE. slopes of Cross Fell.
