The gap in the bank allows for a footpath to cross the amphitheatre. The amphitheatre is quite a bit higher than the floor of the small wooded area to the right. The figure at the left is a photographer taking advantage of the sunlight to get some shots of the amphitheatre, rather like I was only he was using an expensive DSLR and a tripod whilst I was using my point-and-shoot with the image stabilisation facility switched on.
