Ironwork, Chevening House
Ironwork, Chevening House
In 1720, the 1st Earl Stanhope made a number of additions to Chevening House and Estate, which he had bought in 1717. These included the two wings to the main house, including the East Wing, seen here (see TQ4857 : East Wing, Chevening House), and enclosing the north forecourt in a locally made wrought iron surround, of which this gate is a small part. The ironwork is grade II listed - for listing particulars see LinkExternal link.
