Bolton Percy Gatehouse
Bolton Percy Gatehouse
Situated between the Crown Inn and the church, this fifteenth century gatehouse originally marked the entrance to a courtyard of medieval buildings, including a rectory house, a large timber framed barn, a dovecote, stables and other outbuildings. The intricate carvings on the internal beams indicate its ‘high status’, and imply that it was used as more than just a look-out post, offering, it is thought, accommodation for guests to the rectory. Today, it is the only Medieval building to survive from this group and following restoration by the Vivat Trust from May 2010 it offers holiday accommodation for 2 persons.
