Dry stream, Ricketts Wood
Dry stream, Ricketts Wood
This runs along the centre of the wood, and as many such streams on the Weald Clay, is dry in summer. These streams often feature small sink holes, so any summer rain soon disappears. They only flow properly in the winter when the clay and the underground cavities are saturated. Hornbeam causes the deep shade and consequent limited summer vegetation.
