Stanwell: How can England lose with God on its side?
Written on the day before England v Germany on 27 June 2010...

The vicar has hung an England flag on the parapet of the church tower, so there is no way England will lose...

In reality this is the tower of St Mary's Church with its leaning steeple. Unfortunately the lean is to the south-west and not apparent in this view. The tower has an interesting history, with the age of the various components of it clearly visible. The lowest part is 13th century, the flint chequerwork in the middle is 14th century, and the top part with its embattled parapet is 15th century. The spire itself is shingled.
