Staines Reservoirs dam
Staines Reservoirs dam
Construction of the reservoirs commenced in 1898 and was completed in 1902 with a planned storage capacity of 3,300 million gallons of water. The dam is made up mainly of material excavated from the inside and contains a puddle wall 6 feet wide and toothed into the underlying London Clay. The reservoir side of the embankment is faced with concrete blocks to prevent damage to the dam by wave action.
