Mile Lane
Mile Lane
A building on the former factory site at Parkside.
Parkside factory site
During the first half of the 20th century motor manufacturers occupied most of the area south of Parkside to the railway line. Names include: New Beeston, Swift, Maudslay, Velox, Iden and Deasy but the major occupier was Armstrong-Siddeley from 1919 to 1960, after which it became the Bristol Engines division of Rolls Royce which closed on this site in 1994. Since then the site has been cleared and occupied by a mix of offices, technology park and housing.
