Static locomotive, Moor Street Station, Birmingham
The station was opened by the Great Western Railway (GWR) in 1909 and was closed by British Rail in 1987 when a new station was opened immediately north of it on the re-opened line into Birmingham Snow Hill. Moor Street was restored, in part at least, and began a new life in 2003 as part of the Chiltern Railways network. This locomotive is a 2800 Class 2-8-0 GWR engine built in Swindon to a Collett design. The class was introduced in 1938. The original number was 2885 and was cosmetically restored LinkExternal link by The Tyseley Locomotive Works LinkExternal link for display here. It has been in place since 2003.
